Michael Hemmings

Wondering and Wandering

fantasy, sci-fi, Christianity critique

Michael Hemmings has had three careers. 1) The charitable sector (in the church)-neither ‘liberal’ nor ‘conservative’; rather, a critique that asks: what makes humans human and what in that world should be kept and what should be let go or reconfigured in the third millennium). 2) The private sector (in finance) and 3) The public sector (government).

He has a fourth career that has been ‘there’ for his whole life: he is a writer.

About Michael Hemmings

Over the years, he has published a few small pieces here and there and a nonfiction chapter in a published volume. He has a paper being prepared for publication from a conference on Violence and Religion. He has produced a large unpublished manuscript called An Original Sin: The Church, its Teaching of Contempt and the Sho’ah. He also has two unpublished fiction manuscripts (novellas), looking for homes.

brandon sanderson-mistborn series

Almost finished the third volume of three (in less than a month!).  Fantastic books:  well crafted, characters are impeccably moulded, the pacing is just right, lots of turns and surprises, all meeting at perfect endings.  These are the first volumes of his oeuvre...

Carlos Ruiz Zafon

In the last three weeks I read Carlos Ruiz Zafon's four novels that are linked by a 'cemetery of forgotten books' in Barcelona.  He died in June, 2020, a loss for literature and those who study, read and enjoy  ideas and the solace of silence while so doing.  These...

Commentary about Christianity, economics, and politics. The intent here is to create relationships with ‘followers’ or rather one with others who see their lives, like me, as a journey for understanding ourselves and learning more about what used to be called ‘the human condition’.

Exorcism: Hunting Daemons in Lent: Interlude

To this point in our journey, most people can agree about the historicity of Jesus (Yeshuah) of Nazareth and about his execution by the Romans as a criminal or potential threat to the established order. While the cross is the most visible symbol of Christianity it is...
